Plymouth Art Weekender

I am very excited to be involved in the Plymouth Art Weekender this year.  I was approached by two lovely artists who I had met at my Yoga classes Carly Seller, and Lee Jackson, who asked if I wanted to get involved in their Arts Council funded project 'Sound Observations.' This is an interactive experience that ignites the senses and takes you on a journey across my favourite place in the whole wide world...Plymouth!

Plymouth Art Weekender is an ambitious three day event that takes place annually across the city. This is the third Art Weekender and it will be held on 22nd- 24th September 2017 all across the city at various indoor and outdoor venues. The Weekender confidently celebrates Plymouth, its people and the visual arts, promoting the city as an exciting contemporary art destination. The Weekender showcases a wide and diverse range of activity for all ages including a large array of events and exhibitions throughout the city by local, national and international artists.

I had a fantastic time writing a script and recording for a guided mediation that is going to be part of the 'Sound Observations Project'.  Sound Observations is an activity guide book featuring site-specific observation activities in locations across Plymouth, all with views of Plymouth Sound. The activities in Sound Observations borrow from meditation techniques to heighten sensory perceptions of the environment using vision and sound. The book will provide space for the reader to become an active participant and create their own artistic responses to the spaces around them. A series of sound recordings designed to enhance and extend aural perception of selected locations will be also be available on the project website. Visitors are invited to complete Sound Observations as a walk in itself, or to break up the experience into separate activities in between visiting other events in the city.

If you are around next weekend, I highly recommend you take part in this fantastic opportunity to connect with and love Plymouth even more than you already do! The book is fantastic and accessible for people of all ages.

If you do have a go at the meditation, it would be great to know you thoughts.  Feel free to leave me comments below.

Brewing in the Basement

As I sat and sipped my coffee in a trendy London cafe, I reflected on an incredible night of Theatre hosted by Jess Thom the Tourettes Hero. If you don't know Jess Thom, she is a super hero.   She is a super hero with Tourette Syndrome, she is is one of my idols. (Check out the link for more on Jess and her adventures:  https://www.touretteshero.com/) Here in this moment I felt a real sense of contentment as I pondered what I was going to bring back to Plymouth from this amazingly positive experience at the Pit Party. I felt inspired and wished all events and theatre shows were like this.  My brother and I went to the London Barbican Centre to attend the Touretteshero Pit Party- Brewing in the Basement. This hands down, was the best theatre experience I have ever had.  I was beyond excited to the point where I completely let go with my TS and I felt 100% welcome, accepted and 'normal'.  The whole evening was BSL interpreted, there w...

Tic Project- Different Voices

Having a creative approach to my Tourette Syndrome has been important to me so far in my recent diagnosis.  Having a creative mind has almost allowed me to see my TS as a project.  Using my TS as a stimulus for creativity has given me a more positive outlook on the whole experience, and the down days can be spent dreaming up ideas and plans for new dances, community projects or movies.  Today, with my fellow dancer friends of Far Flung Dance Theatre, we made a dance sequence comprised of some of my most commonly reoccurring tics.  We booked a couple of hours in the dance studio and began to explore them together.  It was important that I worked with my friends as I wanted to know what they could see when I tic, I could see my involuntary movements being made voluntary right in front of my eyes, in the form of dance. The choreographic process was familiar to us, we used descriptive words to initiate movement material.   We scanned through a list of nea...

Todays Question? What do you do if you have TS and you are due to teach a yoga class but can't stop shouting 'Hey'.  Do you crack on and assume all will be ok? Or do you rest because you are absolutely exhausted and feel that the participants might not feel uber chill and want their money back!?? Comment, Like, Share!
